We make no charge for an appointment at the Unit. We ask if possible for a donation towards the cost of their visit as without these donations we could not continue.The cost of providing such a comprehensive service is not cheap. On average we need to raise in the region of £80 for each routine attendance. With running costs of around £440,000 per annum the continued generosity of the public is vital to our continued survival and development.
Services currently available are –
- Routine screening by mammography from age 40 with no upper age limit.
- Consultation with one of our Clinic Sisters for clinical examination and / or breast awareness
- With the purchase of an x-ray heel scanner we are now pleased to offer osteoporosis scanning for men and women over the age of 35
- Osteoporosis clinics run on Tuesdays at Elmsleigh Drive Clinic 9.20am – 4pm
We stress the importance of gaining confidence in breast awareness including the process of self-examination and looking for any visual change and we encourage women to attend for routine breast screening where applicable.
With this in mind a specially trained and experienced Breast sisters are available to provide support, advice, care, empathy, education and information
Approximately 5,000 women visit the Unit each year.
Screening aims to detect cancer in its infancy, for women found to have breast cancer the potential health gain can be substantial. In addition innumerable women have had fears allayed.
